2nd Feedback Improvements

After this feedback we have tried to improve some of the problems that our peers picked up. We have tried to lift the red from the mirror scene so it stands out more and we tried doing it by increasing the saturation and brightness of the shot. However we could not brighten the red without making her look bright pink. We have also searched online for more solutions but unfortunately we could not find many and some of the ones we found were too complicated to do as her hand moves around a lot.

They mentioned that some of our shots were too long and it needs more movement so we have made them a little shorter by cutting in some more performing shots in different locations. However because our footage are quite still most the time so we could not add in too much movement unless we re-film most of it, which we do not have the time for. We have tried cutting most shots to the beat to hope that it moves smoother when playing and create a little bit more movement.

Progress

Today we have re-edited some of the footage so it cuts on the beat and we also changed some shots around to make sure the narrative make sense. We then finished the graphics for the green screen shots on After Effects.

2nd Feedback from Peers

After the improvements we made, we had another rough cut review as a class.

Here are the feedbacks we got from them this time.

From these feedbacks we found...

Pros
- Special effects is good
- Narrative is clear
- Good use of colours (match genre well)
- Good Costume Choices
- Good Camera Shots

Cons
- Some shots were too long
- The mirror with lipstick scene is too dark/dull
- Need more variety of shots and more movement
- Phone part was too long

Some of them again said it was out of sync but others said synchronisation was good so we are certain that it is just the way Matilda sings that makes it look a bit out of sync.

This time our teachers said that we should edit more on the beat so shots cut when it needs to and that will keep it entertaining throughout. They also picked up in the colourisation of the mirror scene to be a bit dull but overall they think it was good.

Kingston Re-Shoot - Behind The Scenes

Kingston Reshoot:
2nd March 2015
On Monday, we did some more performance shots in front of the graffiti wall to use through the whole video for different locations for the performance shots.
We had a problem with the lighting because it was a lot sunnier on Monday than when we filmed before and we thought it wouldn't match the rest of our video but it was cloudy for a while so we filmed during that time. We also had a problem with the wind, and Matilda's hair kept blowing into her face, but we decided to put her hair in a side braid to take her fringe off her face. After that we went to Canbury Park to re-film John and Matilda's part and we realised that Matilda wasn't wearing the same jacket as last time so we had to film the whole section again. A benefit of this was that the lighting is consistent through that section whereas if we had alternated between the old footage and the new footage then the lighting would have been different in every shot.

Improvements after 1st Feedback

After the feedback, we did a few things to improve our video.

We have changed the narrative a bit so it makes sense. We have added more shots of how Matilda met John (second guy) so he didn't just appear out of nowhere. We have also changed the shots at the park with John so the audience don't just see the back of them. We have also added a shot of Matilda crossing out a heart on a mirror to suggest that she is over Toby (first guy).

Secondly, we have filmed another performance in a different location with different shots so we can cut them in between the long shots and make the video snappier and fun. We have also switched some of the shots so the audience get the scene from more angles.

Some of our peers have picked up on how some parts of our video are not in sync so we tried to fix that by going through the whole video and making sure everything is in sync. However, during this process we have realised it is the way Matilda sings that makes it look like it is not in sync so we could not do anything about it.

1st Feedback from Peers

For our first rough cut, we went round as a group to look at other music videos from our classmates and give them feedback on what is good and what they could do to improve it.

These are the feedbacks we received from them.

From these feedbacks we have realised...

Pros
- Special effects is good
- Narrative was interesting
- Artist performance fits well with music
- Good locations
- Fantastic Performances and Colour used

Cons
- Some shots were too long
- Some of it wasn't in sync
- Cafe scene doesn't look much like a cafe

Our teacher also gave us comments on the rough cut and they said the narrative was a bit confusing - they didn't know why there were 2 guys in it. They also said the cafe scene didn't look like a cafe and shots are too long.

Behind the Scenes - Balloon Scenes

Here are some behind the scenes photos setting up the scene and during filming. To create a balloon wall we had to put up balloon on the curtains with safety pins so it will be in the frame when Matilda is standing up.

Filming Production Schedule - 8th February 2015

Filming Schedule

Editing Schedule Planning

Today, we have talked about what days we are free to stay and edit our music video. We made sure everyone will come in at least one day of the week and stay after school to edit. On wednesday, all of us are free therefore we will have a full day of editing and maybe filming if we need to.

Second and Third Green Screen Footage

In our second attempt at shooting green screen we filmed it and realised after that the lighting in the video was too orange and didn't look right with our previous green screen footage where we used natural lighting so we had to go back and do a third shooting of green screen with natural lighting.

Editing Progress- Graphics

For our graphics editing, we have linked a part of our green screen footage with After Effects from Premiere Pro as we have learned from last year, doing it this way allow us to lose the least quality and it is quicker.
We then used a drawing pad to draw on the lines onto each frame using After Effects to create a special effect of drawings moving around the artist in the actual footage.

The editing process in After Effect.

Bloopers - John and Matilda's Scene

Bloopers:
John and Matilda's Scene

Behind The Scenes - Canbury Park

We went to Canbury park over the weekend to film the scenes that show John and Matilda in the park.

The first scene we shot showed them meeting and talking to each other on the bench.
We then shot the scenes of Matilda walking with friends across the bridge. This will be used as a performance shot.
